On Wednesdays in the winter, TSA is pleased to offer its students the chance to participate in the ski/board program at Suicide Six in Pomfret, Vermont. Our first day of skiing is always the first Wednesday after December break. High school students can use participation in this program to satisfy their physical education requirements.
Suicide Six offers us a great deal on skiing and riding, lessons, and rentals. While this program is not mandatory, we encourage all students to participate. We’ve had great fun with this program in past years. It is not a difficult area to ski, has many beginner runs, and is a great place to learn to ski. It does have enough challenge that even our advanced skiers enjoy the afternoon with their friends.

Don’t Forget: Be sure your student has the proper equipment and winter gear: skis or board, boots, poles, hat, goggles, mittens, neck warmer, and lots of layers. The mountain is always much colder than the valley. You must also provide your student with a bag in which to put their skis or board (this could be a makeshift homemade creation) to protect the bus from damage.
This year: Suicide Six is offering a Sunday afternoon pass to anyone connected to The Sharon Academy Ski Program. For $105, any child 14 and under can ski every Sunday afternoon that Suicide Six is open from 12:30 to 4:00. Also, any adult (15 and over) may ski at the same time for $170. Younger siblings are included in this deal as are any parent or grandparent who would like to ski. There will be a separate form coming home about this, and you should arrange payment with Suicide Six directly. If you have any questions, contact Julie Rideout at Suicide Six @ 802-457-6661.
Where: Suicide Six is a relatively small, very friendly ski area located in Pomfret, VT, just over the mountain from Sharon.
When: Our ski program begins on the first Wednesday after December Break. The schedule for the 2011/2012 program begins: Wednesday, January 4th. The program continues each Wednesday for seven weeks. The dates are January 4th, January 11th, January 18th, January 25th, February 1nd, February 8th, and February 15th. (There will be no skiing on the 22nd due to Holiday Week at the mountain). If we have to cancel a week due to inclement weather, Suicide Six will do its best to offer an extra week in the weeks that follow.
Helmets: We have a mandatory helmet policy for all participants. If you do not already own a helmet, you may rent one from Suicide Six. You will not be allowed on the mountain without a helmet!!
Lessons: Students who sign up for lessons have them from 2:00 to 3:00 for the first 4 Wednesdays. Lessons will only be offered if 5 or more students sign up at the same level of ability of skiing or riding. Students who take lessons ski/board with the other students from 1:00 until 2:00, and then from 3:00-4:00 when the lifts close. The levels of lessons are: never ever, beginner, and intermediate. The maximum size of these lesson groups is seven students, so please send in your information early if you are interested in lessons. If your student misses a day of lessons, they will not be made up. The ski hill has found that in order to make this work for their instructors these lessons must occur only on our first four visits.
Transportation: We hire a bus to transport students to and from the mountain. The bus to the mountain will leave TSA High School at 12:30, arriving at Suicide 6 at 1:00. The return bus will leave Suicide Six at 4:25, arriving at TSA HIgh School by 5:00. Parents are responsible for transportation home from TSA. We ask that you are prompt in picking students up so our chaperones can go home. Staff members participate as chaperones, along with parent volunteers. There are no adult chaperones on the bus. If this is a problem for you, please contact Mr. Lane at school. This cost is $3 per student per week and will be charged to your student’s account after the ski program ends.
Cost: We prefer that the entire amount of the program be prepaid. Otherwise ½ of the cost must be prepaid by December 9th to The Sharon Academy for students to participate. Payment in full must be made by February 9th.
