TSA On Line Library, Article Searches
Conducting an Article Search
There are two general types of articles that you can search for:
- News articles, which are usually online or print newspaper and magazine articles.
- Scholarly articles, which are articles of a more academic nature that are usually published in subscription only online or print academic journals.
Both types of articles can be located using the following searches. Note: these searches do not always give you full text articles. See the next section if you get a citation or an abstract.
- Search WorldCat using a variety of keywords and phrases. WorldCat does not provide full text articles. When you find an article that sounds good you will then need to find a full text version of the article (see below for how to do this).
- Search Vermont Online Library, Gale Databases (password = rockets). Vermont Online Library provides full text articles for some publications. Read the database descriptions carefully to find the best one for your search. Be sure to use a variety of keywords and phrases as you search. Also, you can search for a specific article by doing a publication search if you know the name of the publication, title of the article, and the publication date.
- Search Google Scholar and Google using a variety of keywords and phrases. Both of these will provide full text articles for some publications.
- Search the websites of specific newspapers, magazines and journals for articles on your topic. These seaches sometimes yield full text articles.
Finding a Full Text Version of an Article
- Unfortunately, some of searches described above will only give you the citation or perhaps the abstract, but not the full text. This can be frustrating, but all is not lost. Try the following steps to find the full text version:
- Copy and paste the citation information of the article you want into a Word document. Be sure to have the following: publication name, title of article, date, author, and page numbers.
- Try a specific publication search with your citation information on Vermont Online Library, Gale Databases (password = rockets) by clicking "continue" on the database page and then select "publication search" on the next page.
- Try searching the website of the actual publication using the citation infomation.
- Try searching searching Google and Google Scholar using the citation infomation.
