2017 Mannequin Challenge

We recently showed this video from 2017 at our first ever Virtual Gala in 2020.

The Mannequin Challenge was a viral Internet video trend that became popular in November 2016, in which people remain frozen in action like mannequins while a moving camera films them, often with the song “Black Beatles” by Rae Sremmurd playing in the background. It is believed that the phenomenon was started by students at a high school in Jacksonville, Florida.

The Sharon Academy’s Mannequin Challenge was filmed in 2017 and featured TSA high school students and staff. Planning took place over the course of several days, but filming took only  40 minutes in a single, long take.

Thanks to the student leaders––and special thanks to our Athletic Director, Blake Fabrikant––for making this such a wonderful school-wide experience. The film was featured as part of National School Choice Week where it won a top prize of $3,000.
