Poetry Out Loud

Canceled
Unfortunately, this year’s event will not be taking place. We look forward to next year’s event.
Created by The National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation, Poetry Out Loud is a national recitation contest that encourages the study of great poetry by offering educational materials and a dynamic recitation competition to high schools across the country. Beginning at the classroom level, winners advance to a school-wide competition, then to the state competitions in February and March, and then to the national finals in Washington, DC. The NEA and the Poetry Foundation provide program materials.
Opportunities such as Poetry Out Loud encourage participation in the arts, expose our nation’s youth to great poetry, develop public-speaking skills and build self-confidence. Students also learn about literary history and contemporary life.
