MS students qualify for state mathematics competition

Lucy Proulx (’26) and Amelia Bailey-Kellogg (’26) both earned spots to participate in the statewide Mathcounts competition on March 31, 2022.  We are very proud of both of them for their efforts as well as all the other middle school students who participated in the Mathcounts program this winter (whether they just attended one practice or participated in the regional chapter round of competition).  Lucy was one of the top four competitors in the state and, as such, has earned a spot on Vermont’s state team that will compete in Washington DC May 7–10, 2022.  Lucy was the top performer outside of Chittenden county and also the top female Mathlete in the state.  We congratulate her on this success and wish her the best of luck at the national competition.

Mathcounts has been a yearly activity at the middle school for quite some time.  The problem sets that students work on each week in practice relate to all areas of mathematics and present intriguing new spins on traditional middle school and high school mathematics concepts.  The focus of the team at TSA has been to stimulate curiosity and discover joy in the elegance of math solutions.  We look forward to doing this again next year with our middle school community.
