In 11th grade, students are required to complete a multi-faceted project, called an Exhibition, through which students execute in-depth research into a topic about which they are passionate. Exhibition assessment is based both on a written component (8–12 pages) and on an oral presentation (20–25 minutes) and includes face-to-face feedback and evaluation from a jury of teachers. Successful completion of the Exhibition requires students to work independently, develop a thesis, think creatively, research complex topics, synthesize information from a variety of sources, and present confidently to an audience of faculty and peers. Presentation schedule:

8:30-9:45

Jackson Bradford—The Characteristics of a Great Video Game  I will look at popular video games and pick out the key characteristics that make them popular.

Nikki Harrington—Why Female Athletes are more Commonly Hurt and What Can We Do about it?   Because of female anatomy & physiology, female athletes are more prone to injury, but there is a lot athletes can do to lower their risk of injury.

Lowry Newswanger—No Country for Any Man   Searching for humanity—rather than consensus—in the national gun debate.

Aili Johnstone—Rape and Sexual Assault in America     My presentation is about rape and sexual assault throughout our society and how to take the beginning steps to reduce the number of cases.

Cassidy Lewis—Exploring why Depression in Teenage Girls Often Goes Unnoticed    Depression in teenage girls is likely to go unnoticed for two main reasons:  Depression presents differently in teenage girls than adults and the majority of societal concerns about teens don’t include mental health.

9:50-11:05

Donovan Piccicuto— The Paradox of Self-Expression  This is a story about me and about how I am going about things to set a good future for myself. This will also mention my creating process in creating comics.

Poppy Tans—Out of the Closet and into the Classroom:  The Necessity of Queer Literature in Language Arts Curricula     This presentation explores why queer literature is beneficial to students, how it can be implemented in a language arts curriculum, and some of the barriers to that integration.

Georgia Quackenbos—What Lurks Beneath:  Aquatic Invasive Species in the Twin States   What’s wreaking havoc in the Twin States waterways?  Alien species have invaded our waterways and threaten our native ecosystems.

Olly Skeet-Browning—Boys Will be Boys…   An examination of the problematic sides of modern masculinity.

Emma Foster—Girls Want to Play, Too     A look at the history of women’s basketball and Title IX’s progression and effect on the dynamics of the game today.

11:10-12:25

Rory Livingston— The Greatest Showman:  Circus as a way to look deeper at 19^th century prejudice  While exploiting peoples’ differences and using them as spectacle is wrong, the 19^th century showmen where really just catering to the interests of the American people.

Sophia DiGuiseppe—Music in Movies, How it Effects You    How and why the score and soundtrack of movies affect your mood and emotions while watching.

Sophie Chesnut—American Dreams in an Adverse America   Immigrants bring many aspects of their cultures with them when arriving in the U.S.  However, they are met by a country full of anti-immigrant sentiment.  Despite this animosity, immigrants are using a powerful piece of culture, food, to connect with and contribute to American communities.

Laila Remainis—Searching in the Dark:  Scientific Progress in the Quest to Explain Dark Matter    Physicists are confident that some form of dark matter exists, but discovering its composition is a great challenge for science.  This presentation will explore the successes and shortcomings of several theories about the nature of dark matter.

Cedric Rule-Becker—Hearing the Noise:  A Musical Dissection of Timbre   What really counts in music?  What is music made of?
