The Sharon Academy Installs New Solar Panels

Driving past The Sharon Academy High School this week, folks will notice a change: Integrity Energy of Bethel, VT has installed 48 solar panels on the south-facing slope above the driveway. The Sharon Academy (TSA) expects that these new solar panels will provide approximately 40% of the high school’s annual energy usage.

“This project is a win-win,” explains Mary Newman, Head of School at The Sharon Academy. “We are lowering our energy costs, reducing our carbon footprint, and at the same time, we are participating in developing a real-life project that will generate ongoing learning opportunities for our students.”

The Town of Sharon provided important support to the project by promptly granting an access easement to the school to allow the installation of wiring under the roadway, which they own.

“We are excited to see this project moving forward,” says John Roe, TSA’s Board Chair. “Additionally, we plan on adding more capacity over time by adding panels on the gym roof as we move to further decrease our carbon footprint. We are looking forward to having a significant part of our energy provided by solar this year and for decades to come!”
