Turquoise Day-Winter Carnival 2023

As The Sharon Academy emerged from the pandemic emergency, the school has been rebuilding its sense of community. Gradually, students are feeling a greater sense of connection with each other and with the school, especially through “Turquoise Days”, the half-days that mark the end of each learning module.

With winter finally upon Vermont, the Winter Carnival on January 31 marked the end of Module 4 and a kind of halfway point of the year. Students and adults reveled in the snow that makes living in the Northeast so special. As usual, Turquoise Days are characterized by being a “no phone” day, to encourage students to be fully present with live, in-person interactions.

Festivities included a friendly snow sculpture competition between advisories, a snowball capture-the-flag between grades, sled pulling, and winter wrestling, as well as opportunities for quieter interactions around a bonfire with hot cocoa and s’mores. Indoor activities included crafting and a movie.
