Electives

Elective classes allow students to explore interests that may not be covered in the core curriculum, learn about a topic they may never have considered before, mix with different student groups, and demonstrate proficiency for graduation.
Every full-time teacher at TSA teaches at least one elective. Students and teachers thus engage with each other in different settings and experience each other’s multi-dimensionality. For instance, a math teacher may teach an Orienteering elective, allowing students and the teacher to know each other as outdoors people. A Spanish teacher may teach a singing course, allowing students a glimpse of her passion for music. Often, students opt to share their own passion and expertise by teaching, which is a deeper learning experience in itself.

In addition, parents, alumni, and residents also teach electives, exposing students to a wider variety of expertise and experience, and developing significant relationships outside of the TSA community.
