Face-to-Face, Heart-to-Heart

Engaging in Dialogue about Issues Affecting Today’s Youth

Launched in 2008, TSA’s Face to Face, Heart to Heart engaged the community every winter through 2016 on the important topic of adolescent social and emotional development.

After a hiatus, partially due to the pandemic, this year Sharon Academy invites the public to a reboot of Face to Face, Heart to Heart. Please join us for a series of four facilitated discussions and presentations on high-interest topics for youth, families, and community members. In addition to providing education and support for the social and emotional development of our adolescents, we want to build community through connection, shared resources, and learning.

Face-to-Face and Heart-to-Heart will provide parents, students, teachers, and community members an opportunity to learn about and discuss some of the important issues facing our youth today. Sessions will provide structured, welcoming, and supportive spaces to learn about issues that pertain to today’s youth.

Our first event on Monday, October 3, 2022, 6:30–8:30pm, will feature Cindy Pierce, a social sexuality educator, speaker, comic storyteller, and author.

Most parents are concerned about the long-term consequences of excessive screen time and the content their kids consume, but challenging social norms takes incredible courage. Combining research and stories in her presentations, Cindy Pierce will help us to increase awareness, equip us with talking points, and inspire us to engage kids in ongoing conversations. With the goal of helping our kids develop social comfort and healthy personal connections, it is important to persist with these conversations.

Cindy is the author of three books, including Sexploitation: Helping Kids Develop Healthy Sexuality in a Porn-Driven World. She and her husband, Bruce Lingelbach are the parents of three young adults and run Pierce’s Inn in Etna, NH. You can learn more about Cindy’s work at  www.cindy-pierce.com

Future events are planned for November 3 and December 1, 2022, 6:30–8:30pm. Additional events are in the works for February and March 2023.

We are grateful to the Vermont Children’s Trust Foundation for funding the series.
