Electives are more than enrichment—they’re a defining part of how students explore interests, discover new talents, and deepen relationships within our vibrant Vermont community.
Each quarter, TSA High School students select from a dynamic list of elective courses designed and taught by faculty, alumni, parents, and local professionals. A math teacher may guide a trail crew through the woods, or a French teacher may lead a women’s studies discussion.
Students are also encouraged to share their own passions by co-teaching, mentoring, or presenting their work, reinforcing TSA’s belief that teaching is one of the most powerful ways to learn. From art and outdoor leadership to coding, music, and wellness, electives invite students to step outside traditional classrooms and engage with real-world skills through curiosity and creativity.
Electives meet twice a week for extended class periods, giving students time to immerse themselves in projects and topics that matter to them.
Through electives, students:
TSA’s elective program helps students build essential skills for life beyond high school. Through project-based learning, collaboration, and reflection, students practice initiative, problemsolving, and creativity—the same skills they’ll need in college, careers, and civic life.
Electives also strengthen our school’s sense of belonging. By learning alongside peers and mentors with shared passions, students discover not only what they love to do, but who they are as learners, creators, and citizens.
