Why a musical interim?

• Interim challenges students in new ways – giving the student body responsibility for every part of the process. Students sell ads for the playbill, source and design the costumes, design the set, choreograph the show, lead the band, and so much more.
• Interim provides a real-world learning immersion – Producing a theatrical production in two weeks is not small feat. Students will make mistakes, have to work through the consequences, and learn a tremendous amount along the way. It is these real-life successes and challenges that make the Interim a powerful deeper learning and community-building tool.
• Interim fosters new experiences – Both our students (and our staff!) have the chance to discover, develop, display, and appreciate talents that are ordinarily not a part of the classroom.

Interim Committee Structure & Responsibilities

All students and staff participate on an Interim Committee each year. Students interested in a leadership role can nominate themselves to be a “Committee Head”. Staff serve on committees and their role is to support the leadership and growth of the Committee Head and participating students.

As part of this intentional program, 9th grade students participate in the ensemble annually as well as getting to participate in a committee.

Set Design and Construction Committee

The purpose of the Set Construction and Design Committee is to design, build, and paint the set to ensure the physical safety of all school members for the musical. This committee is in charge of moving the set to Chandler & taking it down at the end of the production. The set construction crew transitions to the stage crew for musical rehearsals and performances.

Costume Committee

The Costume Committee conceives, designs, and creates costumes or attire that accurately reflect the show’s intent, which includes conducting thorough research into the time period to be represented.

Marketing and Playbill Committee

The purpose of the Marketing Elective is threefold: (1) to promote Interim to drive awareness and excitement; (2) to drive the commercial success of Interim (via advertising and gate revenue); and (3) to capitalize on Interim to market TSA.

Sound and Lights Committee

The purpose of the Lights and Sound committee is to ensure that the actors are audible during the performance, appropriate sound effects are used (when applicable), and appropriate lighting is implemented during each scene.

Props Committee

The purpose of the Props Committee is to make or acquire props for all scenes and ensure they get on stage at the correct time and place.

Food Committee

The purpose of the Food Committee is to plan, organize, and execute a daily community snack that is healthy, balanced, and adequate to feed everyone. Additionally, this committee provides a community meal with the goal of bringing the cast and staff together for a time of pre-show connection.
